Layers don’t just apply to your autumn wardrobe! They also help you to make the most of your beauty regime, whilst reducing the time you need to spend in the bathroom. So, if you want fresh, dewy skin and a work-day lie-in, read on...
Be consistent. It’s easy to be seduced by the latest packaging or special offer but your skin will benefit more from familiar products that match its age sensitivity and oil levels.
1. A GENTLE CLEANSER
If you thoroughly remove your make up at night pick an oil-based cleanser as it’s a gentle wake-up call for your body and fast to use. Simply warm a few drops between your palms smooth over your face and wash off with warm water. Finish by patting with a towel to help your circulation. Otherwise if you regularly rush to bed at night grab a water-based facial wash and warm flannel.
2. TONE AND REBALANCE
This is the stage that most people skip as it’s harder to quantify the benefit. Toning really does help your skin by restoring your ph levels and letting your pores recover (anecdotally, you are likely to get fewer spots if you pause to use a toner, rather than rushing to moisturise). Toners do not need to be pricy: in fact the more natural you can go the better. Lavender or rose water has been used for centuries in this way.
3. SUPERCHARGE WITH YOUR SERUM
Now your skin is prepped add your choice of serum softening laughter lines wrinkles sunspots or sagging skin. Just remember that your appearance does not stop at your chin and it’s worth targeting your neck décolletage and the backs of your hands as well. Allow two or three minutes to let it sink in (an ideal pause for brushing your teeth!).
4. NOW APPLY YOUR MOISTURISER.
Again thanks to your layering approach you can simplify your moisturiser as well. Look for something natural that soothes and hydrates your skin. Don’t bother with a moisturiser that has an SPF factor: this is usually diluted and most dermatologists recommend doing it as a separate step.
5. ADD YOUR SUNSCREEN
This is the warrior of your skincare kit. Here in Europe sunscreen is rarely given the same effort or expenditure as the serums and moisturisers – and then we complain if it’s uncomfortable sticky or shiny. Look for a dedicated facial sunscreen that matches your skin: there are formulations available for everything from acne to eczema. The main thing is to ensure it covers both the UVA and UVB spectrum. The experts recommend reapplying sunscreen every few hours so it’s worth selecting a tinted sunscreen with a matt effect so it works as a light foundation.
6. FINISH WITH AN EYE CREAM (OPTIONAL)
The skin around your eyes is the thinnest area of your face and the most prominent. An eye cream won’t make up for a good night’s sleep or fix a hangover but it can give a welcome boost when you need it the most. Apply this gently with your ring finger and let it sink in whilst you prepare to face the world.
7. A BIG GLASS OF WATER WITH COLLAGEN & VITAMINS
The last thing before hading out is to pour yourself a large glass of water, sprinkle one sachet of our premium collagen peptides Beauty Boost in it and sip up. Then pop two Glow Gummies in your mouth and enjoy the delicious raspberry flavour while heading out the door.
